Robert Marler is Professor of Music at the Belmont University School of Music. He teaches piano and courses in piano literature and piano seminar. Robert is currently the Principal Pianist for the Nashville Symphony. Marler is a frequent soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician and accompanist throughout the Midwest and South. He has performed with numerous instrumentalists from renowned orchestras worldwide, including the London Symphony, the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony, the French National Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony, the Louisville Symphony and others. Robert Marler was the pianist with the Nashville Symphony on the recent three GRAMMY® wins for Made in America, a recording of works by American composer Joan Tower. The winning categories included "Best Classical Album" and "Best Orchestral Performance." Dr. Marler has participated on eleven recordings with the Nashville Symphony and Nashville Chamber Orchestra for Naxos, the world's leading Classical Music label. These include recordings conducted by Leonard Slatkin, Alastair Willis, Kenneth Schermerhorn, Andrew Mogrelia and Paul Gambill. Robert has also performed as soloist with the Nashville Symphony, Chattanooga Symphony/Opera, Jefferson City Symphony and the ballet theaters of Nashville, Louisville, and Columbus. He has collaborated with Nashville Ballet Artistic Director Paul Vasterling in the creation of three ballets. During the past two years he has performed several solo piano ballets with Nashville Ballet during their winter series. In addition, he has performed as an orchestral musician the piano, celesta and synthesizer with the Nashville Symphony, Nashville Chamber Orchestra, Alabama Symphony in Birmingham, the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra and the Bryan Symphony. Prior to teaching at Belmont, Marler was a member of the faculty of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Marler graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Missouri School of Music, an M.M. from Indiana University School of Music, and a D.M.A. from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Dr. Marler also gives masterclasses and is a frequent adjudicator throughout the region. Robert Marler and Charles Vernon (Chicago Symphony) performed an new composition by Howard J. Buss, Illuminations for bass trombone and piano, at the 2001 International Trombone Festival, hosted by Belmont University. Dr. Marler also was involved in a premier performance conducted and composed by Gunther Schuller at an earlier ITA international festival.
